A box and carton labeling machine applies labels to rigid or flexible box packaging — folded cartons, unfolded flat cartons, gift boxes, retail cartons and bakery boxes — using one of three methods depending on the packaging goal:
Flat surface labeling – a label applied to the top or a single flat face of the box
Corner (tamper-evident) labeling – a label applied across two adjoining surfaces of a box corner, sealing it shut in a way that shows if it's been opened
Full-wrap labeling – a long label applied around the entire circumference of a box, front to back

A bottle rotates against a label during wrap-around application — the geometry does the work of laying the label flat. A box doesn't rotate the same way, and its surface may be less rigid or slightly uneven depending on the cardboard grade and construction. Corner labeling adds a further challenge: the label has to cross a 90° fold and adhere firmly to both faces without lifting or creasing at the crease itself. These are the specific reasons box and carton labeling machines are engineered differently from bottle labelers, even though both use self-adhesive label technology.
The box travels flat on a conveyor; the labeling head applies a label to the top (or a single designated) face as it passes, without any rotation or wrap motion.

A long self-adhesive label is applied progressively around a box's full circumference — from one side, across the front face, around to the other side, meeting itself at the back — with precision dispensing synchronized to the box's movement to maintain consistent tension and alignment across the entire length.
A small angle error at the start of a long wrap label becomes increasingly visible across its length — exactly the failure mode that makes manual full-wrap application unreliable at scale. Consistent tension over a long label is also difficult to maintain by hand, which limits both speed and quality as operators fatigue over a shift.
