Some customer relationships take years to fully develop. You meet at a trade show, you stay in touch, you solve one problem together — and then, when the next problem comes along, you are already the first call they make. That is exactly how this project came about, and I think it is worth telling the full story, not just the technical part.

Time and Place: A Relationship That Started in Guangzhou in 2019

We first met this customer at the Canton Fair in Guangzhou in 2019. He came to our booth with a specific interest in a semi-automatic round bottle labeling machine — the kind of focused, purposeful visit that tells you immediately you are talking to someone who knows the industry.

He is Israeli, in his sixties, and has been running his own company for more than twenty years. The business is lean by design — five people, carefully chosen, focused on a narrow product range: labeling machines, laser machines, inkjet coders, and a handful of other compact industrial machines. His customers are manufacturers across Israel who need reliable, well-supported packaging automation equipment. He is not a volume distributor. He is the kind of operator who knows every customer personally and stands behind every machine he sells.

That first conversation in Guangzhou did not lead immediately to a standard machine sale. It led to something more useful: a custom project. His end customer needed to label syringes — different diameters, semi-automatic process, with an integrated printer. We worked through the specification together, built the machine, and delivered it. It worked. That was the foundation.

From 2019 to the present, we have continued working together on various projects. Each one has reinforced the same pattern: he brings a clearly defined application, we work through the engineering, and the machine performs. Trust accumulates that way, order by order.

The New Challenge: Small Round Transparent Labels on Box Corners

When this latest project came to us, the application was immediately interesting — and immediately clear why it was a problem for manual labor.

His end customer was sealing product boxes using small, round transparent labels applied across the corner of each box — wrapping from one side face, over the edge, and onto the adjacent side face. This is a tamper-evident sealing method: the label bridges the corner so that opening the box breaks the label, providing visible evidence of tampering or unauthorized access.

The requirement was for both corners of each box to be sealed simultaneously — two labels, two corners, one pass through the machine.

Before this machine, the process was entirely manual. And manual application of small round transparent labels across a box corner is genuinely one of the more frustrating hand-labeling tasks in packaging:

  • Transparent labels are difficult to peel — the backing and label surface look nearly identical, and peeling a small round transparent label cleanly from its liner requires care and time

  • Corner application requires precise alignment — the label has to land centered on the corner edge, with equal coverage on both faces; a few millimeters of error is immediately visible

  • Round labels on corners want to wrinkle — applying a flat circular label across a 90-degree edge without creasing or bubbling requires a controlled, consistent pressing motion that is hard to replicate by hand at volume

  • Repetition compounds all of these problems — what is manageable for ten boxes becomes exhausting and error-prone for hundreds

The result was slow throughput, inconsistent label placement, and a finished product that did not always look the way a sealed, branded box should look.

Our Approach: Confirm Every Detail Before Engineering Begins

When our customer brought this project to us, the first thing we did — as we do with every custom application — was work through the complete specification before touching a design.

That means confirming:

Parameter

Detail Confirmed

Box dimensions

Length, width, height of all box variants

Label type

Small round transparent self-adhesive label

Label diameter

Confirmed — sized to bridge the corner with equal coverage on both faces

Labeling position

Corner edge, centered, wrapping both side faces

Labeling surfaces

Dual — both corners labeled simultaneously in one pass

Accuracy requirement

Precise corner centering, consistent across full production run

Speed requirement

Target throughput confirmed

Machine format

Fully automatic — no manual placement per cycle

Only once every parameter was confirmed and agreed did our engineering team begin the machine design. This is not bureaucracy — it is the only way to avoid building the wrong machine. A custom labeling machine that does not match the actual product is expensive to fix after the fact. Getting the specification right at the start is the cheapest part of the project.

The Machine: YCT-30C Custom Dual-Side Corner Seal Labeling Machine

The machine we designed and built for this project is the YCT-30C — a custom configuration developed specifically for corner-wrap sealing applications on boxes.

How It Works

Boxes are fed onto the conveyor and advance toward the dual labeling station. As each box reaches the labeling position, two label heads apply simultaneously — one to each corner — wrapping the small round transparent label from one side face, over the corner edge, and onto the opposite face in a single controlled motion. The pressing mechanism ensures the label conforms cleanly to the 90-degree corner geometry without wrinkling or lifting. The box exits labeled, sealed, and ready for the next stage.

The entire cycle runs automatically. No operator intervention is required between feed and exit.

Key Engineering Elements

  • Dual simultaneous label heads — both corners labeled in one pass, eliminating the need for a second machine pass or manual second-side application

  • Corner-wrap pressing mechanism — engineered to apply consistent pressure across the corner edge, ensuring the label conforms to the 90-degree geometry cleanly on both faces

  • Transparent label handling — label dispensing calibrated for the low-contrast, small-format transparent labels that are notoriously difficult to handle reliably in automated systems

  • Conveyor and product guidance — box positioning system ensures consistent corner alignment at the labeling station across the full production run

The Outcome: Consistent, Fast, and Operator-Independent

Once the machine was installed and running, the difference from the previous manual process was immediate across every metric that mattered:

Speed — The machine applies two corner labels per box per cycle, continuously, at a rate that no manual process can approach. Throughput increased significantly compared to hand labeling.

Accuracy — Every label lands centered on the corner edge, with consistent coverage on both faces. The variation that is unavoidable in hand application — slightly left, slightly right, slightly rotated — does not exist in the automated process.

Appearance — Small round transparent labels applied by machine across a corner edge are clean and flat. No wrinkles, no bubbles, no partially lifted edges. For a tamper-evident seal, appearance is not cosmetic — a label that looks disturbed raises questions about whether the box has been opened, even if it has not.

Labor — The operator loads boxes and monitors the line. The labeling itself requires no manual involvement. For a small operation where every person's time is valuable, removing a repetitive, skill-dependent task from the daily workflow is a meaningful gain.

Our customer's feedback was straightforward: the machine solved the problem, the customer was satisfied, and the labeling quality met the standard required for a branded, tamper-evident seal.

What Six Years of Working Together Actually Looks Like

I want to say something about the relationship side of this project, because I think it matters and it does not always get mentioned in case studies.

This customer has been working with us since 2019. In that time, we have built him a semi-automatic syringe labeling machine with an integrated printer, and now a fully automatic dual-side corner seal labeling machine. Two very different applications, two very different machine configurations — but the same working pattern each time.

He comes with a clear application. We work through the specification carefully. We build the machine, test it, and ship it. He installs it, his customer runs it, and it works. No drama, no surprises, no machines sitting in a warehouse waiting for a problem to be resolved.

That pattern is not accidental. It is the result of both sides doing their jobs properly. He knows how to define a requirement. We know how to build to one. When those two things are true, the project tends to go well.

For a distributor running a five-person operation, every machine he sells carries his personal reputation. He cannot afford to sell a machine that does not perform. We understand that, and we take it seriously. That is why, seven years after a trade show conversation in Guangzhou, we are still working together.

What This Project Means for Similar Applications

Corner seal labeling — applying a label that wraps across the edge of a box to seal or tamper-evidence it — is a specific application that comes up across a wide range of industries. Anywhere a box needs to be sealed in a way that is visible, consistent, and resistant to casual tampering, this type of label is used.

The challenges of doing it manually are consistent across all of those industries:

  • Small labels are slow and fiddly to peel and apply by hand

  • Transparent labels are harder still — low contrast, easy to misalign

  • Corner application requires precision that hand labeling cannot sustain at volume

  • Consistency across a full production run is essentially impossible manually

The YCT-30C custom platform addresses all of these. If your operation involves any of the following, this project is directly relevant to you:

  • Pharmaceutical boxes — tamper-evident corner seals on medicine packaging

  • Cosmetic and personal care boxes — premium packaging where label appearance is a brand quality standard

  • Food and beverage cartons — corner sealing for retail shelf presentation

  • Electronics and consumer goods boxes — security sealing on retail packaging

  • Any boxed product requiring a corner-wrap tamper-evident label — regardless of industry

If you are currently applying these labels by hand and wondering whether automation is viable for your volume and label type, the answer is almost certainly yes — and this project is the evidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a corner seal labeling machine, and how does it work?

A: A corner seal labeling machine applies a label that wraps across the edge of a box, covering part of one face, the corner edge itself, and part of the adjacent face. This creates a tamper-evident seal — opening the box breaks the label. In the YCT-30C configuration, two corners are labeled simultaneously in a single automated pass, with a pressing mechanism that conforms the label cleanly to the 90-degree corner geometry.

Q: Can the machine handle small round transparent labels reliably?

A: Yes. Transparent labels are one of the more challenging label types for automated systems because of their low contrast and the precision required for consistent placement. The YCT-30C is calibrated specifically for the label type used in this application. If you have transparent labels of a different size or format, share the details with us and we will confirm compatibility.

Q: Can both corners of a box be labeled in one pass, or does the box need to go through the machine twice?

A: Both corners are labeled simultaneously in a single pass. The dual-head configuration applies one label to each corner at the same time, which is what makes the machine practical for production volumes. A two-pass process would halve the effective throughput and add handling complexity.

Q: What box sizes can the machine accommodate?

A: The machine is configured to the box dimensions confirmed during the specification phase. The YCT-30 platform accommodates products from L:40–400 mm × W:40–200 mm × H:0.2–120 mm, with custom ranges available. If you have multiple box sizes, share the full range and we will design the machine to handle all of them.

Q: Is the machine suitable for tamper-evident sealing in pharmaceutical or regulated industries?

A: Yes. Corner seal labeling is widely used in pharmaceutical packaging for exactly this purpose. The machine applies labels with consistent placement and pressure, producing a seal that is uniform across the production run. For regulated applications with specific documentation or validation requirements, please discuss these with us during the specification phase.

Q: How long has YCTEC been building custom labeling machines?

A: We have been designing and manufacturing standard and custom labeling machines at our Dongguan facility for many years, with equipment operating in more than 30 countries. The Israeli distributor in this case study has been working with us since 2019 — across two separate custom projects — which we think is a reasonable indicator of how our custom machine work holds up over time.

Q: What is the process for ordering a custom corner seal labeling machine?

A: Start by sending us your box dimensions, label size and type, target speed, and any specific requirements around accuracy or simultaneous corner labeling. Physical product and label samples are required before we finalize the design. We will review the application, confirm the specification with you, and provide a detailed quotation. Once the deposit is received, production begins. Every machine is fully tested before shipment.

Q: Do you work with small distributors and independent equipment resellers?

A: Yes, and this project is a direct example. Our Israeli partner runs a five-person operation and has been a valued customer since 2019. We work with distributors of all sizes across the Middle East, Europe, Southeast Asia, and other regions. If you are an equipment reseller evaluating us as a supply partner, we are happy to discuss how we support distribution relationships.
