Labeling small, flat pharmaceutical products by hand is one of those production bottlenecks that teams learn to live with — until they don't have to anymore. For one of our long-term distributors in Hanoi, Vietnam, that turning point came when they brought us a short video of their client's existing labeling process and asked a simple question: "Can your machine do this better?"
The answer was yes. Here is the full story.
Our partner in this project is a Hanoi-based distributor specializing in food and packaging automation equipment — vegetable washing machines, cutting machines, labeling machines, and filling machines — serving manufacturers across the Vietnamese domestic market.
We first connected at a trade exhibition in Vietnam in 2022. Before the show ended, we had already arranged a factory visit. Making the trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi specifically for that meeting was a deliberate choice: we wanted to understand their business firsthand, not just exchange brochures across a booth table.
That visit — roughly an hour of conversation about product lines, target industries, and how we support our distribution partners — laid the groundwork for everything that followed. Within two months of returning home, they placed their first order. Since then, they have ordered three to five times per year, consistently.
Communication has never been a barrier. They work in Vietnamese; we work in English. WeChat handles the gap without friction. What matters is that both sides know what the other needs.
The request came with context. The distributor's end customer — a pharmaceutical manufacturer — was producing oral liquid vials and labeling them entirely by hand. They shared a video of the current process, and the problems were immediately visible:
Labels were small and rectangular, making consistent hand placement difficult even for experienced operators
Output was limited by human speed — hand labeling simply cannot keep pace with production line volumes
Label placement varied from vial to vial, creating an inconsistent appearance that reflected poorly on the finished product
Labor costs were climbing, and the manufacturer needed a path to higher throughput without proportionally higher headcount
This is a common situation in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical packaging. Small-format labels on flat or semi-flat surfaces are genuinely difficult to automate with general-purpose equipment — the label has to be applied cleanly, at the right position, every single time, across hundreds of vials per shift.
Rather than sending a proposal based on the video alone, we took a more direct route. We sourced the same oral liquid product from a local supplier, brought it to our facility in Dongguan, and ran it through the YCT-30 Automatic Plane Labeling Machine.
The test was straightforward: load six vials in a row, run them through the conveyor, and see how the machine handled the label application across a full production sequence.
The results were clean. Six vials per row, six rectangular labels applied in sequence — one after another, row after row — with consistent placement and no misfeeds. We recorded the test and sent the video to the distributor for review.

The ±1 mm accuracy is not a marketing figure — it reflects the synchronization between conveyor speed and the label dispensing mechanism, which adjusts in real time to maintain placement consistency regardless of minor variations in product spacing.

Looking back at this case, a few things made the difference between a smooth project and a complicated one.
Sample testing removed the uncertainty. Instead of asking the customer to trust a specification sheet, we ran their actual product on the machine and showed them the result. There was nothing left to imagine.
